Their basic purpose was to watch the shore to intercept contraband and they eventually became a civil, non military unit, accountable to the tax department. Finally, in 1941, the Carabineer corp was abolished and integrated in the Guardia Civil.
\nThe station was operational until the beginning of the 1970\u00b4s when it was abandoned as a guard house and fell into disrepair. L\u00b4Alf\u00e0s del Pi Town Hall rescued this building in 2015 and today it houses the Serra Gelada Natural Park\u00b4s offices. A second phase of the restoration project plans to create an interpretation centre where visitors can learn about the important natural and cultural values of the natural park. Carbineros Environmental Education Centre is also a Spanish branch for Conservatoire du Littoral, a French public institution dedicated to the environmental conservation of coastal landscapes.
