Jubilee and Patron Saint Santísimo Cristo del Buen Acierto Fiestas
Celebrated from the 7th to 10th of November in honour of the patron saint Santísimo Cristo del Buen Acierto, with great devotion from the people of l´Alfàs and with full indulgence from pope Pius IX to those that venerate him.
This baroque carving of unquestionable artistic quality was located in the Remedio convent in Valencia until the beginning of the 19th century. After its confiscation it fell into the hands of Pascual Baldó Orozco, a Carmelite monk born in l´Alfàs del Pi, who selflessly donated it to the town. The image of the Santísimo Cristo arrived in l´Alfàs del Pi on the 26th of March 1857 and presently is the work of Valencian sculptor Pío Mollar Franch in 1939.
More than 150 years later, l´Alfàs del Pi´s patron fiestas are one of the most important fiestas of our town and a great variety of leisure, cultural and religious events are programmed for those days.
Apart from the patron fiestas, l´Alfàs del Pi also celebrates other fiestas that are considered traditional:
La Creueta
The Creueta fiestas take place the first weekend of May, a tradition that is shared throughout Spain, where the town centre´s stone cross located in Calle Ferrerías is decorated with flowers. Concerts, games for children and religious events are held around the cross, welcoming the arrival of Spring.
Albir Fiestas
The last weekend in August, Albir fiestas say farewell to the summer season in a fun and festive way.
Les Copletes a la Verge dels Dolors
Held in September, Les Copletes a la Verge dels Dolors is one of the oldest popular sung celebrations in the Marina Baixa region. This ancient tradition was silenced during the postwar years but was recovered in 1987 thanks to the memory of the town´s elders that remembered the lyrics and music. They start singing an introductory poem followed by 49 coplas that relate to each of the Virgin Mary´s 7 pains and ending with local dances, food and drink.
La Purísima
Already in the month of December, we can celebrate the Purísima fiestas, organized by a group of young Alfasinas that pay tribute to the Immaculte Conception. They combine leisure and religion with an interesting programme of events.
